Psychotherapy with Adolescents
I love the energy and creativity of adolescence. It can be a time for growth and exploration, when anything seems possible. However, adolescence can also be a time of conflict, pain, loneliness, or destructiveness. If you are a parent concerned about your teen, or a teen feeling overwhelmed yourself, therapy can make a profound difference. I take a warm, non-judgmental stance with teenagers, and I work hard to create a strong relationship. Often I refrain from giving advice or taking a parental stance, as teenagers already have those figures in their lives. Essentially, I help adolescents make effective choices by helping them understand their desires, how they think, and how they might be sabotaging themselves. I am direct and supportive in addressing safety issues, and I establish clear expectations between adolescents and their parents regarding issues of confidentiality and safety.
