Family therapy can be an effective intervention for a variety of problems. Some families avoid conflict, leading to excessive distance and a lack of closeness and warmth in the service of maintaining peace. Other families have trouble containing conflict, with frequent episodes of out-of-control behavior that leave lasting damage. Or one parent may be cast as the limit-setter and the other as the permissive one, with frustration, undermined authority, and marital conflict as the result.

I have powerful strategies for change. My approach involves setting limits and establishing structure to create a calm, safe environment for change. I strive to create a warm and protected atmosphere where family members can explore conflicts with each other in a safe, respectful manner. I want every family member to feel heard—to feel that their perspective is represented in my work with them. My experience is that dealing safely and directly with interpersonal conflict can lead to emotional closeness and more enjoyment of each other.
